“At last year’s London Design Fair, Sweden’s pink wooden pavilion was named ‘Best Stand 2018’ and this year the Swedish design pavilion once again embraces wood. The colour palette was a little more subtle this time round, but the structure was perhaps even more impressive in its construction and design,” says Björn Nordin, Director of Interior and Design at Swedish Wood.
The architects at Förstberg Ling, who prefer working with materials that feel warm and alive, have given the pavilion a temple-like structure in pine. The design makes use of prefabricated panels to ensure that the installation can be disassembled, moved and reconstructed on a new site. A sustainable mindset is clear in the choice of material and the focus on reuse. This oasis in wood also offered a comforting echo of the tranquillity of the forest.
The section of the pavilion that was allocated to Swedish Wood featured pine furniture by Swedish designers. On display were the Loggia table and bench by In Praise of Shadows, Jennie Adén’s Pine Stools, Studio Fredrik Paulsen’s Röhsska chairs, David Ericsson’s Pinzo chair, Rickard Torstenfelt’s Tensta table, Anders Gjertz’s Orgo & Klick floor lamp, Edward Nordendahl’s Blackant seating system and Felizia Matthews’ Amass designs in CLT.
“We’ve presented the very best in Swedish modern design using pine and wood is such a natural, sustainable and versatile material, and one that plays a huge part in Swedish and Scandinavian design,” says Björn Nordin.
