View on the bench
Description
The series grow out of the prototype of the traditional Chinese bench that has been commonly used since ancient times. The bench was a supporting structure. Based on this, Jamy redeveloped the Sunmao (traditional mortise and tenon joint structure) and
created variations of members on the bench. Therefore the bench can be used as a chair, desk, tea-table, hanger, etc. The versatility of the bench makes it a new furniture set and fits modern lifestyle. In the first batch of the design, there are several benches including a single chair, a double chair, a single chair + hanger, a hanger,a tea-table etc.
.
Jamy hopes to arouse from “the view on the bench” reflection and discussion on how to incorporate tradition into contemporary design. There are many ways to meet the requirements of modern life and aesthetics. To distill the surface pattern might be the initial one. The essence of tradition lies in many aspects, e.g. structure, craft and
aesthetic connotation.
