CANADA’S MONT-TREMBLANT NATIONAL Park is home to the award-winning visitor centre known as the Centre de Découverte du Parc National du Mont-Tremblant. Montreal-based architects Smith Vigeant won the award for best interior design at the Prix d’excellence cecobois 2014 and the Sustainable Design Award at the Grand Prix du Design 2013.
The discovery centre sits on an unspoiled shore of Lake Monroe outside Québec, which posed architect Daniel Smith with the challenge of tailoring the building to its National Park setting in a natural way. With its wooden façades and angular mirrored windows that reflect the trees outside, the centre merges beautifully with its surroundings. The sun is able to stream in through the large rooflights and warm the premises in the winter, while in summer the windows can be opened to let the refreshing breeze cool the visitors.«
