On an attractive plot, surrounded on three sides by Mjøsa lake, the groundwork has begun on an 18-storey structure in wood that will scale a height of 81 metres. The plan is for the whole building to embrace wood and the natural colours of wood. The walls inside and out will be lined with wood cladding. The idea is for the façade to be clad in vertical boards, inspired by the movement of the water and the light reflecting off the ripples in the lake.
The building is designed for mixed use, with offices and a fitness centre occupying the lower third, a 72-room hotel in the central section and apartments in the top third.
The structural frame is based primarily on Moelven’s trä8 system of glulam and laminated veneer lumber (LVL). The shaft, however, will be made in CLT. Next to the tower there are plans for a swimming pool, also built in glulam, with glazed openings along three full sides. Above the openings, the façades will feature horizontal wood cladding with a repeated relief pattern.
