Latvia now has its first house in CLT, a seaside holiday home redesigned by Made Arhitekti. The log cabin that was on the plot didn’t appeal to the owners, who wanted a larger and more modern affair. The solution was to retain parts of the original building and add a shell of CLT plus an extension. The new façade lets in generous amounts of light, and the large windows are flanked by panels that open up the façade even more. The new terrace is protected from the weather by a large overhang supported by a multi-armed glulam post.
Internally, the old feel of the forest has been kept by retaining the former roof beams and parts of the log walls, complemented by modern wooden fittings. The walls have been left partially unpainted to further accentuate the connection to wood.
